MAGUSA MSP Escape Lounge 2

The British are coming! The British are coming! And we couldn’t be more thrilled.

In December, the United Kingdom’s Manchester Airports Group will open an Escape Lounge at MSP’s Terminal 1-Lindbergh. While the company operates five of the luxury, common-use lounges in the U.K., this is its first establishment in North America. The 5,000-square-foot space is located behind airport security on the Mezzanine Level of the Airport Mall above the entrance to Concourse E. “It’s a fantastic location,” says Escape Lounge General Manager Michael Henning. “One entire side is made up of windows with a gorgeous view of the airfield and the downtown Minneapolis skyline.”

Guests will enjoy complimentary food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages; comfortable seating; the use of iPads; reliable, free Internet; and a wide array of newsstand magazines and newspapers. The spacious lounge will included separate areas for business travelers who require a quiet space to work and leisure travelers, kicking off their vacation in style. Entrance fees are currently set at $40 pre-book and $45 at the door. Children ages 6 to 12 are $30 pre-book and $38 at the door. (Children under the age of 6 are not permitted in the lounge.)

Is it worth it? Do the math. If you typically enjoy a pre-flight meal and cocktails and purchase magazines to read at the gate, you may find that the entrance fee for Escape Lounge, which includes these amenities, costs less than your regular routine. Plus, you’ll enjoy upscale accommodations away from the hustle and bustle of the airport.

Despite the British influence, don’t expect the lounge to be covered in bowler hats and Union Jacks. “It will have a modern, sophisticated feel, and the menu will be regional to Minnesota versus Britain,” says Henning. That said, you can count on a relaxing, luxury environment where you can “Keep Calm and Fly On.”
