Raise a Minnesota Pint for National Beer Day

Eat + Drink, Local Life

For 13 years, alcohol production and sales were prohibited in the United States. But on this day 84 years ago, President Franklin Roosevelt took the first steps toward repeal by permitting the brewing and sales of beer below 4.0% alcohol.

Though seemingly very American, beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage, following only water as most popular drink overall. So on this April 7th—National Beer Day—we raise a glass of this nationally and globally celebrated beverage. And if you’re at MSP, our friends at Stone Arch and the Minnesota Craft Brewer’s Guild have a few good ones (above 4.0% alcohol, BTW) to recommend from just four of Minnesota’s 120 craft breweries.

Surly’s Todd the Axe Man

This West Coast-style IPA is a popular local brew—hoppy and citrusy with a smooth finish, this beer is among the most sought-after at MSP.

Excelsior’s Big Island Blonde

Look no further if you’re in the mood for something on the lighter side. This refreshing brew is similar to a typical American macro beer.

Surly’s Darkness

This beer is released every fall and can be impossible to find beyond the initial distribution outside of Surly’s beer hall in Minneapolis. Luckily for you, this Russian Imperial Stout is available at MSP!

Castle Danger’s Ode IPA

Brewed in a small town on Minnesota’s North Shore, this IPA features citrus and tropical fruit flavors, making it a bright, refreshing beer.

Lift Bridge’s Farm Girl

This Belgian-style ale is one of the best light ales around—it’s lightly carbonated and has a slightly sweet flavor.

We caught up with Michelle Ranum from Aero Service Group, operator of Stone Arch and partner with the Minnesota Craft Brewer’s Guild, and she, for one, couldn’t be more excited about the state of beer in Minnesota.

Specifically, she likes being able to offer guests the superior quality beer they crave from wherever they are coming from, but with a local, home-brewed twist. And they’re darn proud to be able to connect Minnesota’s flavors and brewers to so many travelers.

Whether passing through or passing the time, swing in for a celebratory cold one at Stone Arch.

Located just beyond the south security checkpoint in Terminal 1, Airport Mall. Open from 4:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.
